Frank Pinkerton, AKA The Goat Man, will be one of the featured speakers at the 4S Goat Expo at the Dawson County fairgrounds at Lexington, Nebraska on Saturday & Sunday, October 1 & 2.  According to the brochure we got in the mail today from the Extension Office in North Platte, Frank will be talking about "Marketing Meat Goats" and "Value Added Marketing".  He will also have copies of his book, "A Compilation of the Wit  & Wisdom of 'The Goat Man'" along and they will be for sale.  When we send out the Texas goat markets each week, you'll note that goats are sold as "#1s" & "#2s" etc..  In the back of Frank's book there are some really good pictures that show the difference in the different grades of goats, the numbering system for Selection Classification and even a section of Goat Carcass Evaluation and Kid Goat Carcass Evaluation Traits.  Both of these sections contain excellent pictures of the carcasses & traits.  This book is a must read, must own,  must keep handy, resource for everyone from the novice goat owner to the old timers.  It includes chapters on Marketing Meat Goats, Nutrition, Feeding & Forages, Breeds & Breeding, Economics of Meat Goat Management, Goat Meat,  and Parasite Management In Goats.  It is the most complete "Goat Bible" we've ever seen and no goat producer should leave the Expo without a copy.  I think Dr Pinkerton says he will sell the book for someplace between $30 & $40 and if you buy it at the Expo you can save the postage.
